store and coffee shop.
LOCATION / Praia is the capital city of Cape Verde, located on the island
of Santiago. Students will live in a neighborhood within the city.
CULTURAL INFORMATION / Cape Verde is an archipelago of 10 islands
350 miles off the west coast of Africa. CV claimed its independence from
Portugal in 1975. It is one of the most stable and democratic countries in
all of Africa. The national language is Portuguese, but the majority of the
people speak Portuguese-Creole.
MINISTRY / There are currently 65 unreached, unengaged villages on the
main island of Santiago. The Gospel has only recently taken hold in Cape
Verde, but since then it has been spreading at a rapid pace. There is a
great need for discipleship of new believers and sharing the Gospel to
villages who have never heard.
DAY TO DAY LIFE / As a student, you will have the opportunity to carry
the Gospel to these unreached villages. You will start your day working at
a children's ministry called Proyecto Pepe, where you will have a great
opportunity to invest in the next generation. Every evening, there is
ministry going on at the church or in town. This includes everything from
basketball and soccer ministry, to discipleship groups and evangelism.
Your time with Global Year is a great opportunity to try many different
things and find where you can use your gifts and talents for God's glory.
