GLOBAL YEAR
STATEMENT OF FAITH

GLOBAL YEAR, INC. // STATEMENT OF FAITH

  1. We believe that all the Scriptures are verbally inspired of God, and are without error in the original writings, and they are the supreme and final authority for faith and life

  2. We believe in one God, Creator and sustainer of the universe, who is eternally existent in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  3. We believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, His death to pay the penalty for everyone’s sins, His bodily resurrection, His exaltation at God’s right hand, and His personal, imminent return.

  4. We believe that all have sinned and are therefore guilty before God and are under His condemnation.

  5. We believe that all who by faith receive Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit, therefore children of God and eternally saved, and that the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer to enlighten, guide, and enable the believer in life, testimony, and service.  We believe that God answers the prayers of His people and meets their needs according to His purpose.

  6. We believe that salvation is eternally secured by the finished work of Christ and the cross and by His intercessory work at the right hand of God.

  7. We believe that God gives spiritual gifts to all believers for the building up of the body of Christ and extending His kingdom.

  8. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, eternal life with Christ of the saved in heaven and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost in hell.

  9. We believe that all believers are called to a life of separation from all worldly and sinful practices and alliances.

  10. We believe in the authority of the local church as the institution ordained by God to evangelize the world and disciple followers of Jesus.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a gap year?

A gap year is simply “taking time off with a purpose”. It is an intentional time of reflection and discovery before a major transition in life. It is very common in England, Australia, and Canada, but is becoming more popular in the USA.  Global Year is a gap year that is designed specifically to learn another language, get immersed into a different culture, evangelize, and make disciples.

  • Is it safe?

A better question: “Is it God’s will for me?” We have taken every step to care for our students and set up “guard rails”.  Anytime you make a decision to follow Christ it comes with risks, but we have confidence in our God. He is faithful!

  • Where do you go?

Global Year sends students to Canada, Cape Verde, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Ireland, and Southeast Asia.

  • What is a typical day in the life of a gap year?

Our primary purpose is to make disciple-making disciples. Each location is a little different. Every location has language training, discipleship, and building community in the local church. We partner with ministries who build houses for the poor, serve in Christian schools, sports ministries, ministries to the vulnerable and trafficked, etc. The students will also experience many adventures and excursions that a tourist would experience.

  • How do I get started?

After prayerful consideration; fill out an application by clicking on www.globalyear.org/application. Once you apply, someone from our staff will be in touch with you to talk through any questions, set up an interview, and start a vetting process.

  • How much does it cost?

We have found over the years, God is faithful to provide for everything He calls His children to do. Do not let money be an obstacle in going. Let God show Himself power by displaying His faithfulness in providing. The cost ranges from $12,000 to $15,000. This includes airfare, insurance, and in-country expenses.

  • What is the housing like while serving abroad?

Each place is unique, but typically the students will live together in a place provided by the ministry under the supervision of a leader.

  • Can I get college credit?

While we are not an educational institution, we have partnered with several colleges that are offering credit to our students. Also, most of our students come home after serving abroad with a good working knowledge of a foreign language, which allows them to get up to 12 hours of college credit.

  • Are there any age restrictions?

We are challenging young people (18-25 yr old) to go to the nations, but we also recognize that God is using Spirit-filled adults to make disciples of the next generation. So, if you are interested in being on mission vocationally, then you can apply at www.globalyear.org/staff-application.

  • Do I have to be called to “GO” with a Global Year?

Every follower of Christ is called to “GO”. Matthew 28:19-20 says, “GO, therefore, and make disciples of ALL nations,..."

We do not stop at the end of the street, our city, or the borders of our country, but we GO and make disciples amongst every people, tribe, and tongue; that God may be glorified as people are united in Christ.

In Romans 1:6 we are “called to belong to Jesus Christ.” Our first call is to follow Christ. As a result, Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 5 that we have become “ambassadors for Christ” in the “ministry of reconciliation”.  All Christ-followers are called to share the good news of reconciliation with God.
